University of Wroclaw invites applications for the position of assistant professor at the Institute of Computer Science of Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (NCN Project).

Project NCN: Storming the Depths: The Many Hypotheses and Open Problems in Symbolic AI
This project explores fundamental questions at the foundations of symbolic artificial intelligence, a branch of AI that relies on logic, formal reasoning, and precise mathematical models rather than data-driven learning alone. Its main goal is to better understand the limits of automated reasoning: what kinds of knowledge can be represented formally, and what questions can be answered by algorithms in a reliable and predictable way.
Competition conditions
Application requirements from the candidates:
- Knowledge of English sufficient for fluent communication and for writing professional literature in computer science.
- A publication record at the top international conferences, with particular emphasis on: KR, PODS, LICS, IJCAI.
- Expert-level experience in at least one of the following areas: Existential Rules, Description Logics, Graph Neural Networks, Modal Logics.
- Experience in the following areas: Logic, Database Theory, Symbolic Artificial Intelligence.
The tasks include:
- Conducting research on the research tasks included in NCN project 2025/59/B/ST6/02964 (download 658622-en.pdf).
- Preparing publications.
- Presenting research results internationally.
- Minor administrative and organisational duties.
The application for the competition should include

- Curriculum vitae.
- Photocopy of diploma confirming obtaining doctoral degree.
- Statement that the University of Wroclaw will be the primary place of work in the case of winning the competition (download Workplace Statement).
- Declaration regarding the scientific discipline in which the candidate will conduct research; in the case of persons conducting research in more than one discipline: percentual commitment in each of the disciplines (download Declaration of scientific discipline).
- Self-presentation containing a description of the candidate's scientific activity, level of internationalization and organizational activity.
- A list of the candidate's publications for a period of no more than 10 years.
- Electronic versions of the two most important publications that the candidate considers to be representative of his/her scientific achievement.
- Application for employment addressed to HM Rector.
- Declaration – article 113 the Law on Higher Education and Science (download Declaration – Article 113).
