Description:

The Honors College at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is seeking to hire two unranked renewable term Lecturers (RT) to teach a new Foundation course that all Honors College students will take in their first year. The Honors College serves undergraduate students across all degree-granting colleges at the university, providing them with the opportunities and resources to develop both inside and outside the classroom as innovative thinkers, critical consumers of knowledge, and engaged citizens.

Each year, this interdisciplinary Foundation course will introduce students to the intellectual community of the Honors College. The class provides students with General Education credit for (either first-year experience or social sciences) and features regular plenaries (lectures) once a week (approximately 250 students) with small discussion sections twice a week (approximately 20 students per section). Through integration into the Honors College, the course provides students with an historical understanding of higher education as an institution for creating and communicating new knowledge, and introduces students to the "big questions" within academic disciplines. Students will engage with a variety of common readings from different perspectives and work together to determine how these various perspectives can be integrated to develop a research question or potential application related to a central topic.

The successful candidate will teach four (4) sections of the Foundation (s) course each semester (12 credit hours) and in the beginning, will be an active participant in refining the new course with other Honors College faculty and administrators. While we are interested in strong candidates with solid teaching experience across a range of topics, we will prioritize those with expertise in and training in the social science methodologies and with experience in interdisciplinary teaching, writing instruction, and professional and/or academic presentations. Above all, though, we are looking for experienced and engaging instructors willing to exploring multi-disciplinary and other perspectives with high-achieving first-year students.

This is an academic nine-month appointment. There will be a one-time summer stipend beginning July 1, 2026, for additional work on preparing the new course. The successful candidate will need to be in Norman before the summer start date.
