Departmental Overview
The Pantas and Ting Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) is the premiere institution at UC Berkeley for the study and practice of entrepreneurship and technology innovation. SCET is globally recognized for developing the Berkeley Method, an internationally recognized approach to teaching technology entrepreneurship to undergraduate students, innovation to graduate students, and technology firm leadership to professionals and executives. The UX Designer 2 will support SCET's internal creative agency by designing intuitive, user-centered websites and digital tools that enhance student engagement and program access. Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and other stakeholders, this role is pivotal in delivering user-friendly web experiences for clients and internal stakeholders.
The UX Designer will engage in user research, stakeholder interviews, wireframing, prototyping, testing, and UI design, all within an iterative design process. By building, improving, and maintaining websites and digital experiences, the designer ensures SCET and client offerings are not only functional but inspiring and inclusive.

Responsibilities
25% User Research & Strategy: Conducts user and stakeholder interviews, surveys, and usability tests to identify pain points and opportunities. Synthesizes data into actionable insights and design briefs. Leads a full redesign of a key SCET or client microsite based on emerging user behavior trends, accessibility compliance, and program growth.
25% UX/UI Design: Creates wireframes, user flows, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD. Iterates based on user feedback and stakeholder input. Ensures accessibility and usability across all screens. Develops UX framework that accommodates multiple SCET program types under one cohesive digital experience while addressing unique user journeys.
20% Client Collaboration & Design Thinking: Leads internal client meetings, facilitates workshops, and co-creates design solutions for SCET programs. Applies design thinking to generate innovative ideas.
15% Website Development Collaboration: Partners with developers to ensure design fidelity and usability in implementation. Reviews staging builds and provides design QA. May assist with light front-end coding (HTML/CSS/JS).
10% Visual Asset Creation: Designs graphic and visual elements that support the user experience. Ensures brand consistency across web assets.
5% Accessibility & Performance Testing: Conducts audits for web accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and performance. Recommends improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Understanding of the user-centered design process (user research, user needs assessment, user modeling, design, usability evaluation and developer relations).
- Understanding of design principles, guidelines and relevant policies including web accessibility standards.
- Skills in diagramming, prototyping and using design tools.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
- Effective time management skills.
- Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic web and / or software development skills.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $39.66 to $55.70 hourly. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits.
