Job Description:
The Computer Science Department within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Visiting Lecturer position to begin Fall 2025. The position is for the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for AY26-27.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teaching (base three-three teaching load)
- Department, college, and university-level service.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
- Reports to Computer Sciences Chair
- Supervises the following positions: NA
- May supervise as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)
Job Requirements:
- Candidates must be prepared to teach a variety of fundamental undergraduate computer science courses, develop, and improve courses, advise students, and serve on departmental committees.
- Lecturers are expected to commit to excellence in teaching, and to constantly review and improve the pedagogy they use to engage and support student learning.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- MS in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution is required.
- While all or most instruction will be in-person, applicants should also address their willingness for and experience with teaching remotely or on-line.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence in education and hiring practices.
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, or related area degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Prior college or university teaching experience is preferred.
Working Environment:
- Class schedules may include courses offered after 5 pm on weekdays.
- This position will require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activities.
- Travel within New York State and beyond may be necessary.
