Teaching responsibilities consist of five courses per year. We seek a colleague with a strong interest in teaching Roman history as well as a course in translation of their own design. In addition, candidates should be qualified to teach Latin at various levels, and preferably also Greek. Applicants must be committed to excellence in teaching and to creating a classroom environment in which students from a variety of backgrounds can flourish. A Ph.D. in hand is preferred; applicants who are ABD will be considered.

To apply, please submit the following materials using the online application system at http://careers.kenyon.edu:

  1. a cover letter detailing research interests as well as teaching approaches and experience, with a focus on the courses mentioned above;
  2. a curriculum vitae;
  3. unofficial graduate transcripts;
  4. three (3) letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses the candidate’s teaching abilities.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Completed applications received by June 8 will be guaranteed full consideration. Preliminary interviews will be held via remote conferencing. Inquiries may be directed to Micah Y. Myers, Chair of the Department of Classics at myersm1@kenyon.edu.

Compensation and Benefits Salaries at Kenyon are competitive and are commensurate with experience. There are a number of faculty development opportunities (e.g., travel, research funds) for which appointees are eligible.

We also offer health and dental insurance, TIAA retirement, and many other benefits, including provisions for a spouse, families, and domestic partners. Details about benefits as well as conditions of employment are described more fully in our Faculty Handbook.
