Position Summary:

Bowdoin College's Department of Classics invites applications for a full-time benefits-eligible visiting assistant professor appointment in classics for the 2026-2027 academic year. The appointment is for one year and begins July 1, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment for a second year, contingent on curricular needs and successful review of teaching. Bowdoin is particularly interested in candidates dedicated to undergraduate teaching. The teaching load is two courses per semester including introductory Roman Archaeology and courses aligned with the candidate's expertise at all levels of the curriculum. The subfield is Roman archaeology and history; we are especially interested in candidates who can engage students with Bowdoin's Mediterranean artifact collections. Candidates also able to offer courses in Roman history and Greek and/or Latin are strongly encouraged to apply. A PhD is expected by the date of appointment.
