Job Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction position. This is a nine-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2026. The appointment of the visiting professor follows guidelines established in the Ohio University faculty handbook, and renewal is based upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.
The successful candidate will be a student-centered, innovative educator who will teach undergraduate mechanical engineering courses in support of rising enrollments and program growth. The ability to teach across one or more of the following areas is desired, consistent with the candidate's expertise: fluids and thermal systems, controls and mechatronics, materials, design, and associated laboratory courses. Instruction will primarily be in person on Ohio University's main campus in Athens, Ohio.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline by the start date of appointment.
- At least two years of relevant professional experience in engineering practice and/or engineering education
- Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and student success
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of engineering (or closely related) professional experience
- One or more years of college-level teaching experience
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Ability to teach a range of fundamental mechanical engineering courses
- Experience mentoring student organizations and design/competition teams
