Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology - Neuroscience

The Swarthmore College Department of Psychology announces a 2-year, non-tenure-track position in neuroscience at the assistant professor level to begin in Fall 2026. The individual will be responsible for teaching four courses per year including a foundational course in neuroscience, research methods, and an advanced neuroscience seminar focusing on the candidate's area of expertise. We seek an individual with a commitment to teaching as well as an active research program that can engage diverse and talented undergraduates. They would also participate in the popular Neuroscience special major supported by the Departments of Psychology and Biology. The candidate will have independent research and office spaces in the College’s new Singer Hall (Singer Hall), which houses the Biology, Engineering, and Psychology Departments. They will also have access to shared departmental resources including a state-of-the-art EEG lab.

The courses and seminars of the department are designed to provide a sound understanding of the principles and methods of psychology. Students learn the nature of psychological inquiry and psychological approaches to various problems encountered in the humanities, the social sciences, and the life sciences. Area of specialization within psychological neuroscience is open. Must have Ph.D. in hand by August 2026. Some teaching experience is preferred. The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.

Applicants should submit a brief cover letter describing their interest in applying for this position, statements describing their teaching and research interests, a current CV, and reprints or preprints of recent work. The teaching statement should describe the applicant’s interests in teaching at an undergraduate institution, previous teaching experience, and approach to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds. The research statement should describe the applicant’s program of research (including research interests, recent and current research, and anticipated areas for future work) and its potential to engage undergraduate students. Relevant experience mentoring students on empirical research should be described in the teaching and/or research statement. In addition, applicants should arrange for three (3) confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted.
