Visiting Assistant Professor of Studio Art in Photography and Digital Imaging

Job Summary

The Studio Art Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Photography & Digital Imaging. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year [two semesters], beginning fall semester of 2026, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will teach a total of four courses in Photography & Digital Imaging within the Studio Art Department, and one writing-intensive course in the First Year Seminar program.

The ideal candidate

  • Has a comprehensive understanding of time-based practices, and can teach historical and contemporary approaches in Photography, including analog and digital tools.
  • Demonstrates broad and experimental strategies to photographic methodologies, including multidisciplinary practices that bridge two-, three-, and four-dimensions.
  • Can teach a writing-intensive, creative, academic course in the First Year Seminar program.
  • Brings enthusiasm and skill to a collaborative department.
  • Shows evidence and/or promise of a significant professional studio art practice and exhibition record.
  • Has experience managing a studio classroom, budget, and student workers.
  • Contributes to the interdisciplinary intellectual life of the department and the broader college community.

Required qualifications

Among the qualifications required for appointment is MFA degree (in hand). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Oberlin College values diversity, equity and inclusion. Compensation

Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
