Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor of French and Francophone Studies
The Department of French and Francophone Studies at Carleton College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in French (beginning September 1, 2026). Areas of specialization are open. Candidates with research in gender and queer studies, pre-colonial and early colonial studies, visual studies, disability studies, and ecocriticism are particularly encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include French language and literature courses from the beginning/intermediate to the advanced seminar level, including two courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The teaching load is 4 courses during the year, spread across three ten-week terms. We encourage applicants with a dynamic, creative, and communicative teaching style that will engage our broad student body.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $48,668 - $52,460. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
