Visiting Professor in Entrepreneurship
Position Description:
The Bates Center for Entrepreneurship & Leadership at Lewis & Clark College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Professor in Entrepreneurship, to start as early as January 2025. Teaching responsibilities (all expected to be in-person) will include five semester-long undergraduate courses each academic year and substantial contribution to the Bates Center’s co-curricular programming.
The successful candidate will regularly teach Introduction to Innovation (emphasizing, e.g., systems thinking and lean startup methods) and a course in Entrepreneurial Finance (for-profit and not-for-profit) for undergraduates. Additional preferred teaching might include Design-Thinking, Technologies of the Future, Leadership, Internship, and/or a course related to the candidate’s own entrepreneurial experience. The position is full-time and Benefits-eligible.
The college’s Bates Center is a vibrant initiative supporting a popular academic minor in entrepreneurship and a growing portfolio of experiential programs. We push students from across the liberal arts to leverage critical thinking, analytical abilities, and communication skills to develop and test impact-based solutions for the for-profit and nonprofit worlds. The visiting faculty member will join a dynamic, creative leadership team committed to a liberal arts–inspired program built on four strategic pillars: entrepreneurial mindset, skill sets, experiential learning, and networking.
In addition to classroom teaching, the successful candidate will actively mentor and advise undergraduates who major in what they love, while helping them build the toolkit and network they need to advocate for themselves and others.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have expertise enabling them to teach the expected courses and a demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. A PhD at the time of appointment is preferred.
Application Instructions:
To apply, please include a cover letter with a teaching philosophy statement included, a current CV, and (if available) teaching references and representative teaching evaluations in your application. Review of applications will begin immediately. If you have questions about the position, please contact Brian Detweiler-Bedell, Professor of Psychology and department chair; Executive Director of the Bates Center for Entrepreneurship and Leadership, at bedell@lclark.edu.
