Visiting Teaching Fellow of Accounting
Job Summary
The Visiting Teaching Fellow is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. This role addresses specific departmental needs, such as supporting enrollment growth, covering faculty sabbaticals, or launching new specialized curricula (e.g., Data Analytics or AI in Accounting).
The Visiting Teaching Fellow is housed in the Department of Accounting & Business Law, which serves all students in the College of Business & Technology through courses in accounting and business law. These courses support various academic programs, including the BAA in Accounting and Master of Accountancy (MACC). The visiting faculty member is expected to contribute to the department's academic mission through scholarly research, provide service to the college and department, and maintain currency in their profession.
Responsibilities
Faculty-Teaching/Instructing -
The Visiting Teaching Fellow is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments. The primary mode of instruction within the department is through traditional face-to-face classes. All Georgia College & State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.
Faculty - Scholarly Research -
Accounting faculty members are expected to conduct and publish scholarly research and develop within the profession in line with AACSB guidelines for maintaining status as a Scholarly Academic. Scholarly Research includes journal articles, proceedings, and paper presentations at professional meetings, which must:
- Be peer reviewed and publicly available
- Meet quality expectations
- Exhibit impact using measures approved by the College of Business & Technology
Other Intellectual Contributions include books and book chapters, non-peer reviewed publications such as invited journal publications, faculty research seminars, instructional software, and teaching cases with related instructional materials.
Faculty- Service to Institution -
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college, and university mission by providing service to the institution. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate service that directly impacts the quality of education provided to students and is related to a faculty member's primary teaching duties, as well as service to the college and department as needed.
Faculty- Professional Development -
Faculty members are expected to remain intellectually active and maintain currency in their discipline.
Other Duties and Responsibilities -
Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collegially and effectively with all individuals.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Terminal degree in accounting from an accredited university and identify as a teacher-scholar committed to the public liberal arts. Doctoral student applicants in an All-but-Dissertation (ABD) status will be considered.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S.3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Hiring preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College & State University's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship. Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.
Other required qualifications include:
- Understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning
- Successful higher education teaching experience within the candidate's area of specialization
- Strong communication skills
- A developing research agenda and a passion for working with and mentoring students
- A commitment to fostering academic excellence, rigor, and distinctiveness in public liberal arts and business education
