About the role

As the Work Health and Safety Coordinator within the People and Culture team, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive workplace at UNE. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will provide expert advice and operational support to staff across the university, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and UNE's own high standards.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety policies, procedures, and supporting documentation, as well as managing the Safety, Hazard and Incident Reporting System. Your work will include consulting with management, academic and professional staff, delivering targeted training programs, and analysing safety data to proactively support wellbeing initiatives.

This role is accountable for driving continuous improvement in UNE's Work Health and Safety Management System, embedding and supporting implementation of key functions such as risk assessment, consultation and leadership capability contributing to a culture where safety and wellbeing are at the forefront of university life.

About you

You are an experienced Work Health and Safety professional who thrives on building a positive safety culture and supporting the wellbeing of others. Your background includes relevant qualifications or extensive experience in WHS management and systems, and you bring a practical, solutions-focused approach to your work.

Your strengths include:

  • Proven experience developing and implementing WHS policies, procedures, and systems in line with legislative requirements.
  • Advanced computer skills, including the use of WHS software and data analysis to inform safety initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, enabling you to provide clear advice and build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, integrity, and delivering results that make a real difference to staff wellbeing.

Desirable attributes include a Return-to-Work Coordinator (NSW) module and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

About People and Culture

The People and Culture Directorate is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that focus on enabling our people to create an engaging and high-performance work culture that delivers an outstanding higher education experience to our students.
