"Writing Center (Brenham) Tutor"

Objective

Assist students to facilitate their essays and/or writing assignments.

Required Quals Summary

Must have Bachelor's Degree. Degree should be in a writing-intensive field, or be supplemented with verifiable and extensive writing experience.

Special Notes To Applicants

You will need to be able to work closely with students, many who are struggling, in order to facilitate their essays and/or other writing assignments. You will also work with students struggling with literacy. You will maintain close contact, in person and online, with other tutors. There will be required training for tutoring, both writing and in literacy.

Principal Accountabilities

• Provide one-on-one student tutoring and assistance with writing assignments and/or literacy.
• Fulfill tutor training requirements in both CRLA tutor training and Blinn-specific literacy training.
• Manage resources and appointment calendar.
• Keep all materials, equipment and furniture in an orderly manner.
• Provide other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in English or other writing-intensive field is required.
• Ability to communicate, both in writing and speaking, clearly and effectively.
• Ability to physically come to the Brenham campus to fulfill scheduled tutoring hours.

Minimum Competencies

Basic knowledge and experience in Windows, MS Office & use of the Internet. Working knowledge of MLA and APA formatting requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

MA or MEd in writing intensive field preferred. Experience tutoring.
