Description:
The School of Continuing Education at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for Lead Instructor position from July 27 - August 7, 2026. The Writing for Film lead instructor position is full-time 30 hours/week; Monday, July 27 - Friday, August 7 (10 sessions; participation in Open House April 25, 2026; 9:45 - 12 noon); attendance at one Summer Staff Orientation meeting (June 25, 5PM-PM or June 27,10AM- 12PM). The position reports to the Performing Arts Programs Coordinator in the School of Continuing Education. Writing for Film, (grades 9 - 12) 2-week program. Explore writing a dramatic story for the screen, develop an understanding of the art and craft of writing screenplays for film, television and/or video games. Learn the fundamentals of formatting and the basics of dramatic story structure - revealing character, writing dialogue, genre, and use of story suspense - all essential to the professional writer. Use industry standard software to create a short screenplay to be shared on the final day of the program. Topics include: Anatomy & format of a screenplay, Character Development, Plot Structure, Theme, Conflicts, World building. The primary responsibility of the position is to plan for and execute cohesive activities that support the above program description. The incumbent is also responsible for planning and executing a culminating event to be held on the last day of the program. The instructor is also responsible for the overall safety of the students. Duties include, but are not limited to: creating curriculum, syllabus, and a culminating event, supervising Teacher's Assistants, reviewing supplies on hand and providing a proposed list of any additional supplies.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of/experience with creative writing, film studies, and teaching experience preferred. An undergraduate degree is required - preferably in Fine Arts with concentration on film studies, media, creative writing or related field. A Master's degree in education, Fine Arts, and/or teaching certification are pluses. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience: in teaching journalism or writing in a K-12 setting and/or camp setting. The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Additionally, he/she/they must enjoy working with children and have a commitment to the performing arts.

Special Note:
