YCCI Statistical Programmer
Overview
Master's-level biostatisticians and epidemiologists are sought for a newly established group in the at the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) at Yale University. This group will collaborate closely with the Yale Center for Analytical Sciences (YCAS) and other biostatisticians at the Department of Biostatistics. The group will provide consultation to Yale faculty and trainees on a range of methodologic approaches in interventional clinical trials, human pathophysiology studies, observational and epidemiological studies, and studies of health care delivery science.
Essential Duties of Position
Function as a team member in the Applied Biostatistics division of the Protocol Development Design and Feasibility (PDDF) area at YCCI. Interact with biostatistics faculty and Ph.D. statisticians to provide biostatistical and epidemiologic support to clinical investigators from the YCCI from the hypothesis generation phase through the dissemination of results. With guidance of leadership, carry out analyses for many types of data and types of studies including clinical trials and biomarker studies. Extract research data from customizable web-based clinical trials database system such as OnCore, RedCap and EDC, merge files and prepare data for analysis. Assist in the preparation of written reports that summarize the analysis of research data, interpret the findings and provide conclusions and recommendations. Assist to provide biostatistical consultations and assistance to faculty and others. Take part in meetings with investigators to assess data management/ statistical needs. Contribute to the assistance of investigators in the review/preparation of research protocols, grants and manuscripts for multiple projects (i.e. provide input on study design, data collection, the formulation and description of appropriate statistical methods, sample size requirements and best research methods). Work on several projects concurrently. Assist in performing power calculations and draft written descriptions for grants, protocols and manuscripts. Assist in the generation of summary statistics for the purposes of results reporting in clinical trial registries such as ClinicalTrials.gov.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task by setting working priorities among a number of conflicting demands.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment with clinical investigators having differing quantitative and clinical backgrounds.
- Ability to write, discuss and present the statistical aspects of studies with clinical investigators.
- Experience using SAS Programming.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Experience with the following programs: R, STATA, or SPSS.
- Experience with other programming languages (e.g. Python).
- Experience and/or course work in Data Science.
Principal Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of duties involving the application of statistical skills to the design of research studies. Works as a member of a research team/study team to provide appropriate statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of studies.
- Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data.
- Operates one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data. Evaluates the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
- Analyzes and interprets statistical data to identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information.
- Processes large amounts of data for statistical modeling and graphic analysis, using computers.
- Investigates, evaluates and prepares reports on applicability, efficiency, and accuracy of statistical methods used in obtaining and evaluation data.
- Participates in the preparation of written and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the finding and provides conclusions and recommendations.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary Range: $55,000.00 - $85,000.00
