Dana O'Brien serves as the Safety and Wellbeing Manager at Central Queensland University (CQUniversity), based at the Rockhampton North campus in the People and Culture Directorate. In this key position, she manages a team of six professionals tasked with overseeing safety processes across the university's 20 campuses, safeguarding the wellbeing of more than 16,000 on-campus students. As a former CQUniversity student, O'Brien has driven substantial improvements in safety compliance, elevating rates from under 50% to over 90% by adopting tools like Locatrix PlanSafe. Her efforts include deploying online training modules covering general first response, emergency control organization, contractors, students, and practical workspace inductions. These programs facilitate rapid communication of building and emergency updates, ensuring operational efficiency across diverse locations.
O'Brien has further empowered her team by implementing Locatrix PlanStudio training for independent floor plan revisions during annual on-site audits with iAuditor. This innovation guarantees instant synchronization of changes into PlanSafe content, upholding the highest standards of accuracy in safety documentation. Additionally, recognizing deficiencies in business continuity planning, she has pioneered floor plan sharing via the Emergency Services Portal, equipping first responders with essential building intelligence. Through these strategic advancements, O'Brien cultivates a proactive safety and security culture at CQUniversity, mitigating risks and enhancing preparedness for students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike.
