Position overview
The Adjunct Faculty in Nursing Research will teach and facilitate the application of nursing research theories, principles, and the research process to undergraduate or graduate nursing students at Winston-Salem State University. The position emphasizes research integration into clinical practice and fosters excellence in instruction.

Minimum qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Under special circumstances, a BSN may be accepted if the candidate is prepared in teaching and learning principles in adult education per Board of Nursing requirements (e.g., Clinical Teaching in Associate certification, or in progress).
- At least two years of full-time clinical nursing experience as an RN (verified by the Board of Nursing)
- Experience in nursing research (practice and/or instruction)
- Current, unrestricted RN license to practice in North Carolina
Preferred qualifications
- Minimum of two years of teaching or relevant clinical instruction experience
- Preparation in pedagogy, adult learning principles, or certification in teaching (CTA or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and scholarly collaboration
- Strong commitment to liberal education, inclusive teaching, and health equity
- Active participation in professional development (organizations, workshops, certifications, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Canvas (learning management system)
Required skills
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in specialty areas
- Ability to apply varied instructional strategies, including face-to-face clinical instruction
- Experience in the application of nursing theory to clinical practice
- Conflict resolution and time management skills
- Capacity to evaluate student performance through writing-intensive and research-focused assessment
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations
Licenses and testing requirements
- Current RN license (unrestricted, North Carolina)
- CTA certification or in the process of completing the certification if pedagogical requirements are not yet met
- 12-panel drug screen required upon hire
Primary responsibilities
Instructional
- Teach core principles of nursing research
- Connect classroom content with real-world clinical application
- Support student achievement of course objectives
- Use diverse teaching methods suitable for clinical environments
- Serve as a nursing research resource for students and external partners
- Serve as a role model for professionalism and ethics
Professional development
- Stay current through certifications and continuing education
- Utilize student and faculty evaluations to improve instruction
- Model professional engagement in civic, social, and scholarly arenas
Research and scholarship
- Integrate evidence-based research into teaching
- Attend research conferences, symposiums, or advanced training events
- Encourage student exploration of the research process
