Position Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position

Teach and facilitate face to face clinical instruction related to the application of nursing theories, principles, and skill competencies. Coach and mentor students during the clinical experience and beyond.

Requirements and Preferences
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Master of Science in Nursing Education. Under special circumstances, consideration may be given to persons with a baccalaureate degree with preparation in teaching and learning principles in adult education, as defined by the Board of Nursing (such as Clinical Teaching in Associate certification and/or in the process of completing CTA certification).
- A minimum of two (calendar) years’ full-time employment or equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse verified with the Board of Nursing.
- Work experience and/or teaching experience in adult health/medical-surgical nursing.
- Current unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina
Normal Work Schedule: Varies- Depending upon course schedule
Department Required Skills:
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in specialty areas.
- Demonstrate ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process, including, but not limited to, face-to-face clinical instruction.
- Teach the applications of theoretical nursing skills and clinical practice.
- Effective management of conflict and time.
- Provide student performance evaluative feedback.
- Provide evidence of the ability to mentor and support undergraduate students through engagement in the clinical learning environment
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
- Minimum of 2 years
- Preparation, teaching, and learning principles pay the goalie as defined by the Board of Nursing.
- Exhibit the ability to engage in interdisciplinary teaching, learning, and scholarly collaboration with the broader constituencies.
- Show commitment to liberal education, diversity, equity, social justice, and social determinants of health in inclusive environments.
- Exemplify commitment to professional growth and development through engagement in professional organizations, conferences, workshops, and other professional growth activities.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Canvas platforms
Required License or Certification: Current unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina, CTA certification if you do not meet the Board of Nursing verified teaching requirements
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional
- Conduct the clinical component of the course (face-to-face and virtual if applicable)
- Correlate classroom content to the clinical setting
- Facilitate students’ achievement of course objectives.
- Facilitate mastery of skills and competencies
- Utilize multiple and varied teaching methods applicable to the clinical learning environment.
- Serve as a nursing resource person for healthcare and local agencies.
- Model professionalism in social and civic areas and demonstrate the ability to teach culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.
Professional Development
- Evidence of continued professional development and/or certification in a specialty area of practice and a professional organization
- Utilize feedback from student/faculty evaluations for instructional improvement.
- Serve as a role model for students in the professional, social, and civic areas.
Research and Investigation
- Utilize evidence-based research in teaching and the practice of nursing.
- Utilize opportunities to increase your knowledge by attending research conferences, classes, and symposiums.
