Academic Advisor
Engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
Serve as the SSS Academic Advisor to a caseload of approximately 110-120 students who are members of the UW-Stevens Point TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program. The TRiO SSS program serves 140 UW-Stevens Point students annually. TRiO SSS students are first-generation college (parents have not earned a baccalaureate degree) students and/or students whose family income meets federally established guidelines. Students with a document disability may also be served in the program. The goal of the TRiO SSS program is to increase the student participants’ persistence rate, maintain their good academic standing, and to increase graduation rates of the students it serves.
This is a grant funded position through the Department of Education for the period of 9/25/2025-9/24/2030. This is an academic staff appointment that will be reviewed annually and is contingent on continuation of funding by the U.S. Department of Education.
