The Academic Coaching Experience Department in the Coastal Student Success Center is accepting applications for an Academic Coaching Specialist.
The Academic Coaching Experience Department is housed within the Coastal Student Success Center, which also includes proactive and reactive programs for primarily first-year students. Each program within the CSSC is specifically designed to meet the varied needs of students and contribute to overall student retention, matriculation, and meeting the goals and objectives of the Coastal Carolina University Strategic Plan and Quality Enhancement Plan.
The Academic Coaching Experience Department administers the Student Opportunity for Academic Recovery program and the early alert system, and the staff enhance student success by offering services that include one-on-one academic coaching, academic skill courses, developmental workshops, and referrals to campus resources. Though some work takes place independently, the staff also works together as a team. A Master’s degree is required to teach.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Manages a caseload of students within a specialized retention program, including but not limited to students on academic probation, academic advisory, freshmen academic alert, or part of the programs for incoming students within the Coastal Student Success Center or campus partner departments for individual academic coaching appointments to help students achieve academic goals. Maintains documentations of interactions in campus software.
- Teaches three (3) sections of a class offered by the Coastal Student Success Center within an academic year with the primary class responsibility being ACED 101: Academic Strategy Development. Academic Coaching Specialist is responsible for instruction, class management, maintaining contact time, and grading within department standards.
- Conducts appropriate interventions for students both on their caseload and in the general student population who receive academic alerts generated by faculty and staff. Maintain documentation of outreach, results, and student response and close feedback loop at the end of the outreach cycle.
- Assists students with navigating academic and non-academic resources on campus, online, and in the community. Hold individual academic coaching appointments for students who receive alerts or self select to attend coaching. Represents Academic Coaching Department and Coastal Student Success Center at campus events, and conducts workshops or presentations for campus partners, faculty, and student organizations. Assist with special projects that contribute to department and institutional retention goals.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and experience in student services programs.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling, education, or any academic discipline that CCU offers in the core curriculum. Experience working with students at the university level who are academically at-risk and diverse student populations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Effective written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment. Effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Student Services Coordinator II (CB70/61122861/ FTE -S01101P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 05 Salary range: $39,764.00 (minimum) – $56,670.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
