About the Master of Counselling Program:
Established in 1999 in British Columbia, CityU's Master of Counselling program is known for preparing graduates as counselling practitioners, scholars, and advocates with a strong social justice focus. Enrollment is strong with high demand. The program is delivered on the Vancouver and Saanich campuses in several accessible formats designed for working professionals.
Job Description:
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice President of Canadian Academic Programs, BC, the Academic Program Director is responsible for overall program quality and student experience. The Academic Program Director leads a committed team of faculty and staff to sustain a rich learning environment and drive continuous improvement in program design, assessment, pedagogy, technology integration, and curriculum development. The Academic Program Director also plays a key role in shaping relevant certificates and specializations to serve BC learners and communities. This is a hybrid role, based primarily at our Vancouver campus, with periodic visits to our Saanich campus.
What You Will Do:
- Provide leadership to Associate Program Directors, Coordinators, faculty, and staff within the academic governance framework.
- Lead faculty and staff recruitment, development, evaluation, and performance management.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and empowering learning and working environment through orientation, mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
- Lead faculty to ensure curriculum alignment with the CityU Academic Model and evolving professional practice.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders to sustain curriculum relevance in a dynamic provincial and professional landscape.
- Ensure compliance with provincial post-secondary standards and provincial and national accreditation requirements.
- Advance inclusive teaching and learning practices, including decolonizing and Indigenizing pedagogy.
- Support faculty in developing ethical, engaged, and self-directed professionals and community contributors.
- Oversee student interviewing and selection processes.
- Guide internship and capstone coordination to meet provincial standards while respecting academic and cultural diversity.
- Provide leadership on institutional councils and committees, ensuring fairness and best practices in policy and procedure.
- Support an active and engaged Program Advisory Committee.
- Model and promote scholarship in teaching, learning, and relevant disciplines.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and professional regulators to ensure regulatory alignment and responsiveness to emerging needs.
Requirements:
What You Bring:
- Earned doctoral degree (from an accredited institution) in Counselling Psychology, Educational Leadership, or a closely related allied health or human services field.
- Minimum 5 years of proven teaching experience, preferably across both in-class and online delivery modes.
- Demonstrated experience in higher education management, leadership, governance, and curriculum development, including leading annual strategic planning and implementation.
- Demonstrated leadership in collaborative, student-centered, inclusive environments committed to continuous improvement.
- Experience engaging students and faculty in teaching and learning practices consistent with the First Peoples' Principles of Learning.
- Ability to address student academic concerns using policy, procedure, and principles of administrative fairness in support of retention and student success.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities, in person and online.
- Ability to build and sustain partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems in support of high-quality teaching and learning.

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time hybrid position based in Vancouver, BC. The role requires a minimum of two days per week on campus (when courses are running) to support regular in-person contact with students and faculty, with some evening and weekend work. Occasional travel, including to the Saanich campus and other locations, may be required; a reliable internet connection is essential. Salary Information:
CAD 115,000 - 123,000/year DOE
