Accessibility Services Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Accessibility Services, the Accessibility Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating disability accommodations and support services for students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure equitable access to educational opportunities and to promote inclusive learning environments across the institution.

The Accessibility Services Coordinator provides case management and accommodation support services for students with disabilities, including determining eligibility, reviewing documentation, authorizing accommodations, maintaining confidential student records, and supporting student retention and persistence. The position also serves as a resource to faculty and staff regarding disability accommodations, universal design principles, accessibility practices, and disability-related support services.

The Coordinator is expected to demonstrate strong customer service, communication, problem-solving, and crisis management skills while maintaining professionalism, discretion, flexibility, and confidentiality. This position advocates for inclusive practices and supports the institutions commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accommodation and Case Management Services

  • Work directly with students to gather documentation, conduct intake appointments, determine eligibility for services, and coordinate reasonable accommodations and support services aligned with applicable laws, best practices, and individual student needs.
  • Review and assess disability documentation, testing, and diagnostic evaluations for apparent and non-apparent disabilities to ensure compliance with institutional guidelines and state and federal disability laws.
  • Provide ongoing case management, advocacy, and holistic support to students with disabilities, including assistance with learning strategies, self-advocacy, onboarding, retention, persistence, completion, and transfer.
  • Support students utilizing assistive technology and collaborate with students requiring specialized accessibility services and resources.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records, case notes, and departmental documentation while exercising sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion in sensitive or crisis situations.
  • In partnership with the Director, coordinate, implement, monitor, and assess accommodations and accessibility support services to promote equitable access and student success.

Faculty, Staff, and Student Support

  • Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, students, and the campus community regarding disability accommodations, accessibility practices, ADA/504 compliance, inclusive learning environments, and accommodation implementation processes.
  • Collaborate and consult with faculty, Executive Director of Student Advocacy, the Dean of Student Success, and campus departments to support effective accommodation implementation, classroom accessibility, student support strategies, and referrals to campus and community resources.
  • Advocate for universal design and inclusive instructional practices by educating faculty and staff on their responsibilities related to supporting students with disabilities and advancing campus accessibility initiatives.

Program Operations and Administration

  • Coordinate daily operations related to accessibility accommodations and student support services, including note-taking services, development of procedures and support tools, and support for PT hourly staff and student employees.
  • Collect, analyze, assess, and report data related to accommodations, student usage, outreach efforts, and service effectiveness to support compliance reporting, continuous improvement, and enhancement of accessibility services and student support processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information in compliance with FERPA and institutional policies while participating in committees, trainings, meetings, professional development, and other departmental or institutional responsibilities as assigned.

Outreach and Campus Engagement

  • Assist in planning and facilitating workshops, presentations, trainings, and outreach initiatives related to disability awareness, accessibility, universal design, and inclusive practices.
  • Promote awareness of Accessibility Services resources, referral processes, and institutional diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives across campus and within the community.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, families, community organizations, and external agencies to support and advance inclusive learning and working environments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Counseling, Education, Special Education, Social Work, Human Services, Disability Studies, Accessibility, Social Justice, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities in a post-secondary or educational setting, including working effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accommodation, assessment, and intervention practices for students with disabilities, including the ability to review and interpret disability documentation and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, student success, and maintaining confidentiality while handling sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting students with disabilities through assistive technology, accessibility tools, support programming, and the application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessible instructional practices.
  • Experience supporting students experiencing mental health challenges and connecting students with external community resources.
  • Teaching, training, or workshop facilitation experience, including experience working with high school-aged students or transition programs.
  • Experience supervising student employees or hourly staff and utilizing data to inform assessment and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
