Accountant II
Job Summary
Performs accounting and/or auditing duties and assists higher level accountants with general accounting work to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of a unit's financial transactions. May specialize in a specific field of accounting such as payroll, cash management, accounts payables/receivables, data control, and/or related fields.
Job Description
- Develops, organizes, prepares and updates moderately complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions.
- Analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates and recommends solutions as needed.
- Develops and maintains automated financial systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity.
- Audits reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, reports, and prepares working papers.
- Provides budget information and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Support financial operations for central IT, including telecommunications, network services, infrastructure, academic computing, applications, and security.
- Process and track financial activity for IT projects, software, hardware, contracts, and vendor services.
- Manage purchase requisitions and invoices across multiple IT cost centers.
- Track IT contracts, renewals, and service agreements, including costs and timelines.
- Prepare financial reports and summaries for leadership on spending, commitments, and balances.
- Assist with budget preparation, projections, and monthly reconciliations.
- Support audits, maintain documentation, and recommend process improvements.
- Handle sensitive financial and contract information with discretion.
Qualifications
- Experience in accounting, finance, or fiscal operations within higher education, IT, or a large, decentralized organization.
- Experience working in large ERP systems such as Workday or similar enterprise platforms.
- Familiarity with automated financial systems, procurement platforms, and budget reporting tools.
- Experience supporting multiple funding sources, including operating, capital, grants, or auxiliary accounts.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and comfort working with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and financial reporting tools.
