Adapted Lab Assistant
Position Summary
The Department of Physical Education at SUNY Cortland is accepting applications to fill 2 part-time adapted lab assistant positions for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Major Responsibilities
Lab assistants in adapted physical education supervise undergraduate students in PED 356 (Adapted Physical Education and Sport) in two types of lab settings - gymnasium and pool - where the undergraduates work with children with disabilities. Oversight of the labs by lab assistants, as well as faculty assigned to teach the labs, is requisite to the safety of all participants involved. Supervision of undergraduate students may include assessment of lessons and lesson plans and taking attendance. Lab assistants also contact and recruit program participants and manage the participant database. They are responsible for managing adapted equipment and assessment tools. Lab assistants may also assist with weekend workshops at Raquette Lake and have other duties as assigned.
Please note that you are required to attend the PED 356 Labs which are offered during the following times.
- Monday & Friday 12:40-1:40 PM
- Tuesday & Thursday 3:30-5 PM
- Wednesday 4 - 6 PM
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals and children with disabilities.
- Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program in: Physical Education, Health, Communication Disorders, Early Childhood, Special Education, or related field.
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout your Graduate Program.
- Demonstrate Professional Dispositions as outlined by the Physical Education Department.
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S.Ed. in Physical Education (undergraduate)
- Enrollment in an Adapted Concentration as an undergraduate student
- Experience working in movement environments (camps, athletics, boys & girls clubs, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic computer skills, communication, organization, and integrity.
