Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Division of Addictions Psychiatry is to advance research, education, and clinical care for patients with addictions.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Psychiatry and Division of Addictions Psychiatry are seeking applicants to provide addiction services to patients at VCU Health System and teach addiction psychiatry/medicine.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical: Provide addictions psychiatry clinical services to patients within the MOTIVATE clinic and on the Addictions Consult Service. This position may also rotate at VCU Health’s ambulatory sites in the community and provide tele-psychiatry services.
Teaching: Educational effort shall include medical students, residents, fellows, and colleagues in addictions psychiatry and other colleagues where appropriate. Teaching responsibilities also shall include preparation and presentation of instructional materials, lectures, evaluative materials, testing and maintenance of personal professional skills through continuing education, advising, and mentoring trainees, and attendance at Grand Rounds.
Research: The Division of Addictions has an active collaboration with the Stravitz-Sanyal Liver Institute at VCU focused on the treatment of alcohol use disorder and comorbid liver disease. The division is seeking an addiction psychiatrist who can play an active role in that collaboration in both clinical care and research, and eventually take a leadership role in this area.
The Division of Addictions has an established research team with multiple NIH funded research studies and industry funded clinical trials. This position offers the opportunity to participate as a co-investigator in those clinical trials and support and mentorship to develop an independent research career.
Administration: The Division oversees the Virginia Health Practitioners Monitoring Program (HPMP), which provides monitoring for healthcare providers in Virginia which allows them to achieve and maintain abstinence from substance use disorders and maintain licensure. There is an opportunity for an addiction psychiatrist interested in collaboration with state government to take a leadership role in this program.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Board-certified or board-eligible Psychiatrist
- Virginia license/licensure-eligible
- DEA licensure
- Board eligibility or certification in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry
- Demonstrated history of working with patients with addictions
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
