The Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience is seeking Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists to support inpatient, outpatient, and mixed-setting clinical practices across Riverside, San Bernardino, and the Coachella Valley at UCR Health clinics and affiliate sites. Physicians in this role provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy for children and adolescents, while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and community partners to ensure continuity of care. Faculty will also have opportunities for teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows.

This is a Per Diem appointment. Per Diem Physicians are hourly paid appointees whose primary purpose is clinical service. These appointments have a variable schedule and cannot exceed 43%. Assignments may be pre-scheduled or arranged as needed on a day-to-day basis, as determined by the University.

The full salary range for a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist is $100.00 - $225.00 per hour. However, the expected hiring pay scale for this position is up to $150 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements

  • Possession of the education and legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Required

Experience Requirements

  • UCR has three levels of physicians; all levels require completion of medical residency and are distinguished by board certification status and years of experience. Required
  • Junior Physician requires board eligibility and must successfully pass the board exam within 18 months of hire. Required
  • Must meet UC credentialing requirements. Required
  • Physician requires board certification and must have a minimum of 1 year of experience post internship/residency. Preferred
  • Senior Physician requires board certification and must have a minimum of 2 years of experience post internship/residency. Preferred
  • Background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care. Preferred
  • Experience in behavioral health inpatient and outpatient settings. Preferred

License Requirements

  • Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Medical Board. Required
  • Maintenance of California Medical License and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number. Required

Certification Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Required
  • Eligible to sit for board certification in a relevant care specialty as determined by the American Board of Medical Specialists. Board certification required within 18 months of hire. Required

Special Conditions

  • Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and patients from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, educational levels, sexual orientations and identities.
  • Ability to stay abreast of new medical knowledge, and to maintain and increase expertise and skills as relevant to clinical practice.
  • Ability to work independently under general direction and to work collaboratively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer proficiency and first-hand experience in using electronic health records systems to document patient interactions and coordinate care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Specialty Patient Care (80%): Physician Specialists engage in specialty direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to: Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians who routinely manage the care of patients. Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the patient care team. Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements. Instruct residents, interns, and students in a designated specialized medical service.
  • Communication (20%): Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment.
