Job Description:


The Department of Chemistry is seeking a highly qualified and motivated instructor to teach the laboratory portion of our GOB (General, Organic, and Biochemistry) course for Nursing majors for the Spring 24 semester and potentially beyond. The laboratory will be held in-person on our campus in Newport, RI.


CHM-121 Chemistry of Human Health. This survey course covers focused aspects of general, organic and biochemistry, including reactions, solution chemistry, biomolecule structure and interactions and nomenclature. Students develop critical thinking skills to be applied to human health.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and teach in-person, on-campus laboratory sessions.
  • Grade and return student assignments, lab reports, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Provide a course syllabus at the start of the semester to the department chair. (A template will be provided by the department chair.)
  • Basic use of the Canvas learning management system to disseminate syllabus, and other course material to students. (Help using this system is available, if needed.)
  • Use Salve email (i.e., @salve.edu) to send and receive official email correspondence with students, staff, and administrators.


Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Chemistry or a related discipline, along with laboratory teaching experience preferred
  • An ability to teach two in-person laboratory sessions per week during the day at the scheduled class times.
