Position: The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Forensic Science, with a preferred start date of August 2026.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in organic chemistry is required. Postdoctoral research and/or undergraduate teaching experience is strongly preferred. Candidates whose research complements departmental strengths in target-directed synthesis are particularly encouraged, though all areas of organic chemistry will be considered.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate lecture and lab courses in organic chemistry, potentially including general chemistry and upper-division courses. Establish a competitive research program involving undergraduate students in chemistry and related majors, pursue external funding, and disseminate findings through peer-reviewed journals and presentations. Pre-tenure faculty are assigned five course units per academic year.
The Department: ACS accredited, with 18 tenured or tenure-track faculty engaged in externally funded research. It enrolls over 200 undergraduates in chemistry, forensic chemistry, and chemistry secondary education, and 40 graduate students in forensic science. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and environmental science, with opportunities for collaboration across related departments.
