Adjunct Faculty - Public Health
Reporting to the Dean of Science, Health Professions, and Nursing (SHPN), adjunct faculty in the Public Health program are responsible for supporting student learning by utilizing college resources, facilities, instructional materials, and educational technologies to enhance the overall teaching and learning experience. Mercer County Community College (MCCC) seeks a dedicated and collaborative adjunct faculty member to prepare and deliver course instruction in Public Health and contribute meaningfully to the academic community.
The ideal candidate will foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages active student participation, academic persistence, and long-term success. They will demonstrate a strong commitment to equitable teaching practices and cultural responsiveness, essential to serving MCCC's diverse student population. By promoting a sense of belonging and academic confidence, the adjunct faculty member will play a vital role in advancing student achievement and retention across the Public Health program.
Please note that assigned tasks and responsibilities span both campuses for all MCCC positions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach classroom lecture-style instruction in Public Health (includes using technology such as automated presentations, computer-generated slides, videos, and the college's online learning interface).
- Assess student progress and success through classroom participation, assignments, projects, and examinations.
- Advise and mentor students through individual and group interactions to support academic and career development.
- Calculate and submit final course grades by established semester deadlines.
- Hold and support office hours for student consultation, tutoring, and academic support.
- Comply with all current College policies and procedures, including those related to public health, academic integrity, and accessibility.
- Participate in all required adjunct duties, including at least one adjunct faculty meeting per semester.
- Help connect students with relevant public health career pathways, transfer opportunities, or internships, especially if aligned with workforce development initiatives.
- Assist with data collection or reporting for student learning outcomes and accreditation efforts, when requested.
- Stay informed of current trends, research, and policy issues in the field of public health and incorporate relevant updates into course content.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Teaching opportunities may include day, evening, or weekend classes.
- Teaches Public Health courses across all levels offered at both the West Windsor and James Kerney Campuses (JKC).
- Year-round teaching opportunities may be available based on departmental needs.
- Demonstration of the ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level, display a student-centered approach, demonstrated ability to assist and motivate students, and willingness to reinforce all lecture lessons with hands-on experiences when resources permit.
- Effective oral, written communication and organizational skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to supporting a diverse student population, including those from varied academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to deliver course content in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid formats, based on instructional needs.
- Demonstration of the ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level, display a student-centered approach, demonstrated ability to assist and motivate students, and willingness to reinforce all lecture lessons with hands-on experiences when resources permit.
- Effective oral, written communication and organizational skills.
