Adjunct Instructor for Principles of Genetics Lab
Job Description
The adjunct will teach the laboratory course for BIO3003/ BIO5003: Principles of Genetics. This course is designed to provide the student with a qualitative introduction to the field of genetics. This one semester course will focus on the basic principles of genetics, such as the role of DNA and RNA in gene expression and protein synthesis, Mendelian genetics, the role of genetics in animal development, and population and evolutionary genetics. To engage students, lecture material will be reinforced through practical applications within the laboratory setting. The lectures and laboratory assignments will leave the student with an operational knowledge of modern day genetics and an ability to communicate the material in a scientific manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Teach the course BIO3003/ BIO5003, which includes one 2 hour 40 minute laboratory per week. Days and times of laboratory are Thursdays 6:15-8:55p
- Use Brightspace as a digital learning platform for course materials and grading
- Hold 3 office hours per week

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Qualifications
Education
M.S., Ph.D., post-docs, or experienced academicians with a strong background in a related discipline (e.g.- molecular biology, biology, genetics)
Experience
Teaching experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing and walking around a laboratory. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Hours Expectation
1 lab/week (2 hours and 40 minutes/ lab) & 3 office hours/week.
