The Administrative Coordinator for Academic Affairs plays a central leadership role in supporting the academic operations of the Fowler College of Business. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, this position provides high-level coordination of faculty personnel processes, class scheduling, workload tracking, curriculum support, and related academic workflows across five departments. The role operates with significant independence, ensuring large-scale academic cycles are planned, executed, and completed accurately and on time. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate faculty personnel workflows, workload tracking, reporting, and curriculum-related administrative processes across multiple academic departments.
  • Oversee class scheduling production and monitor recurring academic operational cycles to ensure timelines and compliance standards are met.
  • Serve as an operational resource to department staff and faculty on academic affairs policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Analyze workflow challenges, recommend process improvements, and establish operational standards to enhance efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data integrity across university systems, ensuring compliance with college and CSU policies.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego after a preliminary 6 month training period.

Department Summary

The Fowler College of Business Dean's Office supports the instructional, research, and administrative operations of the College's five academic departments and associated centers. The Office coordinates academic affairs processes, including faculty personnel actions, class scheduling, curriculum management, faculty development, accreditation documentation, and related operational functions in support of the College's instructional mission.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of budget and workload tracking processes sufficient to coordinate and monitor operational compliance.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications, university systems (my.SDSU), scheduling software (Ad Astra), and database systems; ability to troubleshoot system-related issues affecting academic operations.
  • Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions.
  • Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference.
  • Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.

Compensation:

  • Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department's budget and equity guidelines.
  • Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($4,367).
  • Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,367 - $6,362 per month (Step 1 - Step 20).
  • Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
