Admissions Counselor
Position Summary
University of Detroit Mercy is seeking candidates for the position of Admissions Counselor. This position serves a vital role in the success of enrollment management by identifying and engaging prospective students, executing recruitment strategies, and managing the matriculation rate of new, undergraduate students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage assigned recruitment territory through prospect relationship management, leveraging partnerships, relationships, market research, admission/enrollment data, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to increase prospective student interaction and influence admission yield.
- Initiate and maintain contact with high school and community college students, counselors, and other school administrators through individual and group interactions.
- Recruit at day and evening events as a representative of the University.
- Review academic qualifications and make admissions decisions.
- Communicate University information to prospective students from the inquiry stage through matriculation.
- Manage and coordinate programs for assigned liaison(s) roles between Admissions Office and other Detroit Mercy departments.
- Collaborate with various University stakeholders during the recruitment and enrollment process.
- Evaluate data from self-initiated and standard reports to determine appropriate actions to reach enrollment goals.
- Create new markets by identifying populations for outreach and develop and implement activities aimed at increasing University visibility.
- Assist with day-to-day functions of the Admissions Office and other duties as necessary to support recruitment efforts.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education – A college degree or four to eight years of work experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred. Experience in recruitment or sales preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Clear verbal and written abilities.
- Effective public speaker with informative and persuasive speaking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish required productivity goals.
- Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Knowledge working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Licenses/Certifications
Driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience.
Anticipated Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Evenings and weekends as needed.
Additional Information
Able to listen, speak, read, write, walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand intermittently for long periods of time. Able to lift up to 10 pounds.
