Admissions Counselor

Job Summary:

We might be biased here in the Oberlin College Admissions Office, but we think our jobs are awesome. We get paid to recruit amazing students to a cutting-edge college. We get to travel, meet inspiring students from around the world, and help them realize their dreams. Our work is principled, mission-driven, and affirming.

We also get to work together in an office with some of the coolest people you will ever meet, with a culture that prioritizes a balance between hard work and fun.

All that's missing is you! Fortunately, we have an open position for a 12-month, full-time Administrative and Professional Staff position as an Admissions Counselor reporting to the Director of Admissions in the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to recruiting students and evaluating admissions applications, you'll join a project team and take responsibility for a special project area that matches your skills and interests.

Where might your particular set of skills benefit our collective work? Project areas include virtual and on-campus event planning, communications and social media, mentoring student staff, Slate CRM management, and/or access initiatives. We wear many hats, which means there are many ways in which your skills might be a great match with our office.

This is a two year appointment with the expectation that your work performance will be reviewed after your first year and you be invited to remain for the second. This position takes a full year to learn given the cyclical nature of the job responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Enthusiastically and effectively promote the value of an Oberlin education to prospective students, parents, and school counselors. Assist with the implementation of procedures and programs for attracting, evaluating, and matriculating students. Participate in educational events, college fairs, information sessions, and recruitment activities as a representative of the college.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Interest in working with prospective students, families, and secondary school counselors.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with students and families from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking and presentations.
  • Ability to work within a team, as well as with stakeholders across the college campus.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to meet Oberlin College insurability standards. Must be comfortable driving in unfamiliar areas with GPS assistance in a wide variety of traffic and weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to travel independently, work on a computer for up to eight hours a day, and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Available to start July 1, 2026

This is an in-person position that will require in-office work. No accommodations will be made for a permanent remote position.

Compensation:

Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.

Special instructions to applicant:

Please submit cover letter, resume, and three references, as well as a 200 word writing sample promoting the benefits of a liberal arts education and/or Oberlin College.
