POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Undergraduate Admissions Counselor supports the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of incoming first-year undergraduate students, focusing on domestic populations. This role provides a personalized, student-centered experience by guiding prospective students and their families through each stage of the admissions process. The counselor also contributes to enrollment goals through strategic outreach, relationship building, and effective territory management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the recruitment of prospective first-year students for fall and spring enrollment cycles.
- Develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies to support enrollment goals.
- Use historical data to strategically plan recruitment travel in areas with the highest potential for new student enrollments.
- Represent the University at college fairs and high school visits to identify and engage prospective students.
- Build relationships with high school counselors and partners, promoting the value of a SHU education.
- Participate in admissions events, including open houses and visit programs; occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective students and their families to understand their goals, interests, and decision-making factors.
- Maintain consistent communication and follow-up through phone, text, email, written correspondence, and virtual or in-person meetings.
- Meet with prospective students and families during campus visits, offering supportive guidance and helping them envision their experience at Seton Hill.
- Encourage and assist students throughout the enrollment process, from application completion through acceptance and deposit.
- Provide clear, personalized guidance on the financial aid process, including FAFSA completion, scholarship opportunities, and interpretation of financial aid packages.
- Continuously evaluate recruitment efforts, tracking progress, identifying trends, and recommending improvements.
- Review applications, make admission decisions, and request additional information as needed.
- Collaborate with campus partners to ensure a seamless, student-centered admissions experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude and a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service in a student-centered environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to think critically and solve problems effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build connections with students and families in both individual and group settings.
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage high school students, athletic recruits, and families.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to support recruitment events and deadlines.
- Willingness to travel frequently, both locally and out-of-state, to represent the University.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred experience in sales; prior admissions experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Slate CRM or similar enrollment systems is desirable.
