ASC Veterinary Officer
Job Description:
- High‑impact veterinary role supporting world‑class research and teaching, with direct influence on animal care standards across UWA.
- Position with professional autonomy, working closely with researchers and technical teams while shaping training, capability, and best‑practice procedures across Animal Care Services.
- Full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment on an ongoing basis.
- Base salary range: $116,262 - $127,078 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
Animal Care Services is responsible for ensuring that all animals used in research and teaching at the University are housed and cared for to standards of best practice and in compliance with all legal and statutory requirements.
Animal Care Services supports teaching, biological and biomedical research projects in a range of contained housing environments and research facilities for laboratory animals, large animals and selected native species.
About the opportunity
- Provide specialist veterinary expertise supporting research and teaching activities involving animals across UWA facilities.
- Lead and oversee procedures requiring anaesthesia, surgery, treatment, and recovery, ensuring best‑practice animal welfare and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to capability‑building by supporting staff training, stakeholder advice, and collaborative engagement with the wider veterinary community.
About you
- A tertiary qualification in veterinary science or equivalent qualification suitable for registration in Western Australia
- Demonstrated capability in veterinary anaesthesia, diagnosis, treatment, and management of research and teaching animals.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to advise, collaborate, and build effective relationships with researchers and technical staff.
- Skilled in training others and communicating complex veterinary concepts clearly.
- Production animal, anaesthesia, and/or surgical experience preferred but not essential. Requirement to receive work calls after hours to provide emergency veterinary advice.
