Position overview

Within the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy, the Centre will play a strategic role in promoting a national collaboration on Indigenous economic empowerment through economic and fiscal policy design and advocacy, translational research, cross sector partnerships, and education and professional development. Working alongside First Nations, governments and industry, the Centre seeks to move beyond problem diagnosis and focus on collaborative actions that further Indigenous economic self-determination and support Indigenous peoples to sustain their unique rights, cultures and connections to the Country.

The ANU College of Law, Governance and Public Policy (CLGP) is a progressive and newly established College that brings together four world-leading academic schools dedicated to shaping the future of law, governance, regulation, policy and population health. As part of Australia’s leading university, the College fosters excellence in research, teaching, and engagement, driving impactful contributions to national and global challenges.

The College provides an intellectually rich community, committed to providing a collaborative and supportive environment for academics, students, and professionals to thrive.

The Position

As the Senior Research Adviser, you will play a critical role in establishing the Centre’s research capability and engagements. Reporting to the Associate Director, Research & Engagement, you will lead the design and delivery of Indigenous-led research programs; ensure rigorous governance, ethics and data stewardship (including FPIC, ICIP and Indigenous Data Sovereignty); coordinate multi-partner projects; and translate findings into practical tools for communities, government, industry and investors. You will take a hands-on approach to building and maintaining internal and external relationships, contribute to grants and contract reporting, and help cultivate a high-performance, culturally safe research culture.

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled, action-oriented leader capable of establishing effective collaborations to support the successful establishment of a nationally significant Centre. The candidate will have expertise in research methods and ethics, and community-centred engagement, coupled with deep cultural integrity and experience working with Indigenous communities. The successful candidate will be an outstanding communicator and a recognised research leader, demonstrating resilience, agility and the ability to build strategic partnerships that lay a strong foundation for the Centre’s future impact.
