About the role
You will work in collaboration with academic and professional colleagues to provide effective and efficient laboratory support for the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training program (KCRMT) in Broome.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the equipment use for KCRMT laboratory and clinical skills sessions, and practical examinations (OSCEs).
- Provide practical support to KCRMT teaching activities by consulting with Academics to ensure provision of their classes’ requirements, including demonstrating technical instructions on the safe and correct operating techniques.
- Contribute to the improvement of laboratory operations by implementing and carrying out equipment maintenance to ensure optimal operation and disposing of clinical and biohazardous waste.
- Ensure that laboratories and clinical skills sessions are prepared for school activities by auditing and procuring the relevant materials and equipment.
- Assist with the supervision of students and laboratory assistants.
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of safety documentation such as risk assessments, safety audits and standard operating procedures for laboratory activities.
- Implement new safety procedures and advise staff and students.
- Actively participate in team meetings through sharing ideas and contributing to discussions.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise, or broad knowledge in technical laboratory sciences, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience and expertise in laboratory operational coordination and maintenance, preferred but not essential.
- Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, engage and influence stakeholders.
- Excellent operational, organisational and administration skills including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Experience and technical expertise relevant to a laboratory with a health/education focus.
- High level of competency in various software packages including the Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to collaborate with other departments and stakeholders utilising the lab, providing a high level and responsive service.
- Proven record of preparing high quality documentation with excellent accuracy and attention to detail
