Classification Title: ASO/FULL PROF - Type 2 Diabetes (T2D)

Classification Minimum Requirements: Candidates should currently hold a tenure-track appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at their institution. Those with an MD or DO degree must possess or be eligible for a Florida Medical License. The major assignment will be in research, but the candidate is also welcome to participate in clinical service and teaching efforts that are negotiable.

Job Description: The University of Florida Diabetes Institute invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. We seek an innovative and collaborative investigator with a strong research program focused on Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Areas of study may include, but are not limited to, molecular and cellular disease mechanisms, metabolic dysfunction, including beta cell inflammation and stress responses, translational strategies for diagnosis and treatment (e.g., GLP-1 receptor agonists and approaches to mitigate side effects), artificial intelligence (AI) applications in disease modeling and prediction, the microbiome's role in metabolic disease progression, digital pathology, biomarker discovery, and clinical decision support systems.

  • Establish and maintain a productive, externally funded research program in T2D
  • Engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations within the Department and broader UF Health community
  • Contribute to the Department's educational mission by mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or medical trainees
  • Participate in academic service and faculty governance

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary research community with opportunities to collaborate across the UF Health system, including the UF Diabetes Institute (UFDI), Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and the Department of Endocrinology.

The Pathology department is composed of approximately 80 faculty members, 28 specializing in experimental pathology, and is ranked in the top 10 in NIH funding amongst U.S. public university departments of pathology. The department's faculty play key leadership roles in a series of well-established departmental core facilities (e.g., metabolomics, genomics, molecular pathology) and provide Directorship to many of its Institutes and Centers (e.g., UFDI, Center for Immunology and Transplantation (CIT), Center for Cellular Reprogramming (CCR)). The department's faculty have embraced the need to see AI integrated into many facets of research and clinical care by leveraging UF's HiPerGator supercomputing resources powered by leading-edge NVIDIA technology. The UFDI and Pathology Department research laboratories are well supported by experienced technical staff (e.g., certified/licensed technicians, graduate-level and post-doctoral trainees, pathology assistants, administrative support staff), with a modern bio-banking facility supported by well-established programs for the collection of peripheral blood and tissues from living study participants and organ donors, respectively. Finally, UF has recently made significant financial investments into cutting-edge research technologies that will form the basis for next-generation efforts in molecular pathology, genetics, and cell biology.

Expected Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. This position offers a competitive salary, excellent start-up package, designated laboratory and office space, and access to state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and core resources.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D. in Pathology, Endocrinology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or related biomedical science field; Strong record of scholarly activity and peer-reviewed publications in T2D and/or related areas; Evidence of or potential for sustained extramural funding; Demonstrated commitment to mentoring.

Preferred: Research that complements existing departmental strengths in Type 1 Diabetes research; Experience in translation or interdisciplinary team science.

Special Instructions to Applicants: In order to be considered, you must upload your cover letter and CV. The successful candidate will be required to provide an official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. Applicants should apply online and include a curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, and a letter of application outlining interests addressed to Todd Brusko at tbrusko@ufl.edu Search Committee Chair, and Stacey Oliver at oliversl@ufl.edu Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine.
