DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs (GUEA) provides leadership and support for efforts that advance UC equity and inclusion, that promote access to and successful completion of baccalaureate and graduate degrees, and that help to provide an exemplary student academic experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities

The primary objective of the Summer 2026 internship with ASSIST is to support web accessibility efforts by cataloging all resources in the ASSIST Resource Center and evaluating their compliance with current WCAG accessibility guidelines. The intern will classify each resource, identify any accessibility gaps, and document the steps needed to bring non-compliant materials into alignment with WCAG standards.

As part of this work, the intern will learn how to use the Wave Evaluation Tool and Axe DevTools (free versions) to assess accessibility compliance. The initial focus will be on the public-facing ASSIST Resource Center. If time allows, the scope may expand to include accessibility reviews of internal tools and resources used by the ASSIST team.

This internship is suitable for students from a wide range of academic disciplines, including but not limited to information science, digital media, accessibility studies, computer science, education, communications, or related fields.

Target start and end dates

July 1, 2026 - September 11, 2026 (10 weeks)

20 hours per week. Preferred schedule is either 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This is 100% fully remote position.

Required Qualifications

Required skills include general computer usage and website searching, the ability to follow directions, asking thoughtful, clarifying questions, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. No prior accessibility or technical experience is required; training and guidance will be provided.

Payscale:

$20.00 hourly, commensurate with skills/experience.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
