Assistant/Associate Adjunct Faculty in Collegiate Seminar (SEM 102A-01/SEM102B-01)
Position Description
The Collegiate Seminar Program seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach in the BA in Leadership and Organizational Studies (BALOS) bachelor's degree completion program:
Seminar 102A-01 Western Tradition I for Transfer Students (Part A)
January 9, 2023 - February 12, 2023
Hybrid Course: In person meeting dates: Jan14 & Feb 4; 9AM - 5PM
Online between 1/9/23-2/12/23
Seminar 102B-01 Western Tradition I for Transfer Students (Part B)
February 13, 2023 - March 19, 2023
Hybrid Course: In person meeting dates: Feb 25 & March 18; 9AM - 5PM
Online between 2/13/23-3/19/23
Total Workload = 1.0 SEM 102A-01 (.5) and SEM 102B-01 (.5)
In addition to teaching, instructors in the Collegiate Seminar Program are expected to hold regular office hours in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom. Instructors are also expected to participate in faculty development including workshops, class observations, and syllabus collaboration. Course design must follow the program's common syllabus, meeting the requirements described.
Course Description:
Part A of Collegiate Seminar course. Employing and building strategies of critical thinking, critical reading, and shared inquiry, together read, write about and discuss a selection of texts from different time periods of the Western tradition.
Part B of Collegiate Seminar course: In part B of this course students will continue employing and building strategies of critical thinking, critical reading, and shared inquiry, as they read, write about and discuss a selection of texts from different time periods of the Western tradition. Students will also assess own progress in the main learning outcomes of 1) Shared Inquiry, 2) Critical Thinking and 3) Written & Oral Communication
Qualifications:
Minimum:
At least two years experience teaching lower division GE courses, or similar courses in the applicant's home discipline as the instructor of record at SMC or equivalent courses at an accredited institution. Outside applicants (non-BUFM) must also submit evaluations, evidence of course development, and evidence of teaching excellence.
Preferred:
PhD in hand
