Department Summary

The Charles H. Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon is a top business school known for its focus on innovation, sustainability, and leadership. Located in Eugene, Oregon-just an hour from both the Pacific coast and the Cascade Mountains-the college combines academic rigor with the region's culture of creativity and collaboration.

The School of Accounting, one of five academic units within the college, prepares students for careers in public, corporate, and governmental accounting, as well as for leadership roles requiring strong financial expertise. The school offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs and is committed to excellence in teaching, impactful research, and active engagement with the accounting profession.

Through partnerships with professional organizations and its advisory board, the School ensures that its curriculum remains current and aligned with industry needs, equipping graduates to thrive as future business and accounting leaders.

Position Summary

This position involves teaching up to eight undergraduate and graduate courses per year in areas such as financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, or data analytics. Course load may vary based on scholarly activity or other assigned duties.

Service expectations include a .20 FTE commitment, which may involve committee work, professional engagement, or advising student organizations. While research is not required for NTTF faculty, active engagement with the accounting field and participation in professional development activities are encouraged.

Additional responsibilities include academic advising, maintaining regular office hours, and supporting student learning through mentorship and feedback.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor:

  • Master's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
  • Ability to teach accounting or data analytics courses, as demonstrated by prior teaching or work experience.

To qualify for the rank of Associate Teaching Professor:

  • Master's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
  • Ability to teach accounting or data analytics courses, as demonstrated by prior teaching or work experience.
  • Six years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.

To qualify for the rank of Teaching Professor:

  • Master's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
  • Ability to teach accounting or data analytics courses, as demonstrated by prior teaching or work experience.
  • Twelve years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.

*Note: Additional teaching experience does not guarantee appointment at to a senior rank.

To qualify for a Professor of Practice, candidates must also demonstrate they:

  • Have a substantial basis of experience equal to a tenured professor (normally a minimum of 12 years) and a national/international reputation for excellence reflected in a record of significant accomplishments;
  • Have a profile of accumulated professional accomplishments fully congruent with the rank of professor;
  • Have a rich and extensive background in a field and discipline relevant to the school, college, or unit of appointment at the University of Oregon; and
  • Can serve as a liaison between the professional field and the University of Oregon.

Professional Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated interest, experience and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level.
  • PhD in Accounting.
  • Experience in managing a program serving academic or business practitioners in accounting and/or finance.
