CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Graduate Center (GC) is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at the City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master’s programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center’s commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences.
The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni-who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City’s intellectual and cultural life.
The PhD Program in Mathematics at the GC invites applications for a prestigious, open-field open-rank faculty appointment supported by the Simons Empire Faculty Fellows program with a required start date of August 2026. This is a research-intensive, graduate-only position with strong institutional backing and the opportunity to help shape the intellectual life of our program.
We seek a mathematician with a well-established research record or whose work shows exceptional promise. We are particularly interested in early-career candidates on a steep upward trajectory who will pair research excellence with active mentoring and community leadership.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Teaching and mentoring: graduate courses; graduate advising; active participation in seminars and reading groups; regular in-person engagement at the Graduate Center.
- Research: Pursue an internationally visible research agenda, individually and/or collaboratively, with robust institutional support.
- Support: Additional support via the Simons Empire Faculty Fellows program; further start-up/research resources may be available
QUALIFICATIONS
For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
COMPENSATION
$94,909-$155,388/year (salary range increases to $98,231-$160,827/year on 9/1/26 per the PSC contract). Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
