The School of Public Health (SPH) at the University of Memphis (UofM) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS). This is a full-time, 9-month, tenured or tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025. This position presents an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant academic community committed to advancing public health research, education, and community engagement. A successful candidate is expected to take a lead role in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, student advising, enhancing existing educational programs, continuing with their research program, and collaborating within the school, university, and with external partners.

The CEPH accredited School of Public Health (https://www.memphis.edu/sph/contact/index.php) offers Master of Public Health degrees with concentrations in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Urban Health, and Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics. The SPH also offers a Master of Health Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, and PhD programs in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and in Social and Behavioral Health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver courses that align with the changing landscape of public health and teach core courses at all levels as well as specialized courses in their areas of expertise. Demonstrate excellent potential in building a robust portfolio of funded research. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in multilevel intervention development, implementation, and evaluation. Collaborate with other division members to enhance and complement our core strengths in community-engaged research, mixed-method studies, social epidemiology, community and urban health, and social determinants of health. Desirable areas of research interest include cancer screening and treatment, maternal and child health, chronic disease management, diet and physical activity, digital health and social media, mental health and addiction, and/or global health. Mentor and advise students, guiding them in their academic and professional growth, and offer support and direction to students pursuing research projects, internships, and other academic endeavors.
