We seek to instill in all students the value of discovery with the liberal arts and sciences serving as a foundation for professional development and life-long learning. The University is in New Haven, Connecticut, a city rich and vibrant with arts and culture, and home to many universities and with easy access to New York City and Boston.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

The Department of Healthcare Systems and Innovation at Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (depending on experience) to begin in August 2026.

The Healthcare Systems and Innovation department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Studies and an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management. The Healthcare Studies program features a concentration in Clinical Trials Administration and Practice, which positions students for employment as clinical research coordinators and related professions. The mission of the Healthcare Systems and Innovation department is to provide an exemplary undergraduate education to prepare students for a broad range of non-clinical careers in the healthcare sector. The department is especially committed to supporting students through academic advising and career preparation.

The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching courses in the Healthcare Studies and Healthcare Management programs at the undergraduate level. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are required to engage in scholarship/creative activity, service to the department and University, professional participation, and student advising. While the nominal teaching load is 12 credits per semester, there is the opportunity for reassigned time.

The role of all Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) employees is to support a robust in-person learning environment for its students. In furtherance of this goal, while some classes may be remote or hybrid in accordance with student needs, faculty are generally required to be available for on-campus teaching. This means that while faculty may be scheduled to teach fully remote classes, there is no guarantee of fully remote work.

  • Strong interest in mentoring and advising students pursuing healthcare careers.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with, work, and interact successfully with students, colleagues, and community.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • evidence of ability to teach courses in at least two of the following areas: clinical research, health statistics and research methods, medical terminology and body systems, healthcare ethics, healthcare communication, and healthcare quality improvement.
  • evidence of college/university teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level in content areas covered by the healthcare studies curriculum;
  • evidence of scholarly competence through research activity, external grants, research, peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations in an area of healthcare or healthcare pedagogy, and a well-articulated plan for future scholarship activities;
