Assistant/Associate Professor of Higher Education

The Department of Educational Leadership at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Charlotte) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible Assistant or Associate Professor of Higher Education beginning August 10, 2026 (position #004915). The position will primarily serve the Ed.D. and M.Ed. programs in Educational Leadership, and their robust concentrations in higher education. Graduate-level coursework is delivered in a variety of formats including face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online.

Responsibilities.

Demonstrate scholarly productivity in research; teach courses and advise students in the Department of Educational Leadership primarily in the field of higher education; seek external funds to support research activities; provide service to the field and profession; and participate in program, department, college, and university service.

Qualifications.

We seek a faculty colleague to join a high-achieving, dynamic, and collaborative College of Education and Department that is committed the development of higher education professionals interested in both research and practice. Required qualifications include: (1) an earned doctorate in Higher Education Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or closely related field from an accredited university, or expected graduation prior to August 10, 2026, (2) a minimum of three years of professional experience as an administrator at the college/university level, and (3) for Assistant Professor—evidence of the potential to develop an active and sustainable research agenda with the promise of external funding in an area associated with higher education; for Associate Professor—early career momentum in the development of an active and sustainable research agenda with the continued promise of research productivity and external grant funding in an area associated with higher education.

Preferred qualifications include: (1) professional experience and teaching and research interest in higher education student affairs, enrollment management, and/or academic support (other areas will also be considered), (2) experience teaching graduate-level courses and with dissertation committees, (3) previous publications and experience with external funding, (4) evidence of service to the profession, and (5) demonstrated familiarity with the use of online instructional technologies.

Setting.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Charlotte) received Carnegie R1 status in 2025 and offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 32,000 students. Charlotte is among the fastest growing large metropolitan areas in the United States and remains one of the New South’s most beautiful cities. The University is also fast growing with new facilities and infrastructure, including an on-campus light rail line to Center City Charlotte. Charlotte boasts a vast array of cultural and recreational opportunities and outstanding medical and community services to meet the interests and needs of a diverse population. In addition, Charlotte is two hours from the Blue Ridge Mountains and four hours from Carolina beaches. The University is within the boundaries of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (CMS) public school system, which receives widespread recognition as one of America’s best school districts. With CAPE accreditation and more than 100 full-time faculty, the College serves nearly 2,500 students through undergraduate and graduate programs, including five doctoral programs. Students enrolled in the higher education concentration typically include professionals currently employed at many higher education institutions in the region and beyond.

  • A current and complete curriculum vita;
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts of graduate coursework may be uploaded and considered for preliminary screening. Finalist will be required to provide an official transcript from the highest degree earned;
  • Names, addresses (including titles and institutions), telephone numbers, and email addresses of five professional references; and,
  • Optional: Other supporting materials relevant to the applicant’s scholarship and teaching, including reprints of up to three scholarly publications and course evaluations or other evidence of teaching effectiveness.
