About the Opportunity
Summary:
The Assistant Director, Athletic Academic Support will support the Executive Director in managing the day-to-day operations of the Academic Center through supervision, program coordination and collaboration with campus partners. This position will also oversee academic support for assigned student-athletes/sport programs while monitoring academic progress, NCAA eligibility requirements, and progress toward graduation. A commitment to exhibit ongoing and open communication with student-athletes, coaches, university faculty/staff, academic advising and support units, athletic administration, and colleagues in SASS is expected. Position may require:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience in the areas of academic support, counseling and development of student support programs
- Exhibits comprehension of NCAA rules and regulations with hands on experience in academic eligibility requirements highlighted in NCAA DI Bylaw 14
- Proven experience developing and implementing programs that directly supports student-athlete success (ie. study hall management, tutoring program, student development, etc.)
- Knowledge of academic guidance counseling - active listening skills, complex problem solving, deductive and inductive reasoning, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate student-athletes to academically achieve
- Strong organizational skills and knowledge of operational procedures at the university level
- Ability to be detail orientated while displaying self-motivation and initiative
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to present and speak for small and large groups
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required, Knowledge of Banner, DARS, EAB Navigate preferred
- Academic background in Athletic Counseling/Advising, Sport Psychology, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, and/or College Student Development preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a NCAA Division I Academic Support Unit and with the sports of Baseball, Basketball, Football, and/or Ice Hockey
- Previous supervision of part-time staff and/or student employees
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse population of student-athletes, coaches, and staff with possession of high self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
- Active member in N4A, NACADA, or similar national academic advising body
- Demonstrated consistent upward trajectory of skills and/or responsibilities
- Ability to travel with teams and preform duties in the evening or weekend on occasion
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
(20%)
- Direct supervision of SASS support staff (study hall monitors, interns, co-ops, etc.) that will assist SASS during Academic Center operational hours.
- Recruit, Interview, and Hire staff according to university guidelines and collaborate with The Office of Student Employment, Graduate Assistantships & Fellowships.
- Train support staff on SASS policies, procedures and enforcement, customer service standards, reporting, and systems required for day-to-day operations.
- Manage the weekly front desk schedule, communicate changes to normal operating hours with SASS Staff, coaches, and administrators, and regularly review process of support provided to full time staff.
- Manage weekly payroll for support staff and maintain accurate spending data for department budget.
- Oversee monthly support staff meetings and agenda.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop training, mentorship, career advisement and ongoing professional development opportunities.

- Design and Implement student-athlete development programming aimed at improving retention and graduation rates for student-athletes through educational support programs and resource.
- Utilize national standards and guidelines to develop timely and relevant offerings and tailor programming to meet student needs during each academic year.
- Directly manage the Huskies 360 program and all planning aspects of the program offered in summers as well as the academic year and maintain all data collection metrics needed to assess performance, utilization, and growth factors.

- Provide academic support services to assigned varsity teams by maintaining all academic files for student-athletes, applying continuous review of academic records and progress.
- Utilize progress reports/alerts and extended monitoring programs to gain vital and timely information from faculty in the assessment of student-athlete academic performance.
- Maintain schedules, active roster lists, and end of semester grade reports obtained from Registrar's office and disseminate to appropriate coaches, athletic administrators, and campus partners when necessary.
- Coordinate and organize team travel letters to send to faculty each semester.
- Schedule and meet with new first-year, transfer, and at-risk student-athletes on assigned varsity teams on a reoccurring basis to facilitate and develop time management, study/test taking strategies to facilitate a successful transition to campus life.
- Maintain timely and accurate meeting notes in Navigate.
- Review and report on required study hall hours for student-athletes on assigned teams.
- Collaborate with various campus partners and college academic advising units to ensure student-athletes meet major, college and university requirements each semester, taking into consideration team practice, travel, and competition schedules.
- Pro-actively refer student-athletes to appropriate university offices when necessary.

- Monitor academic eligibility as it relates to the NCAA, Conference, and Northeastern rules and regulations.
- Partner with the Athletics Compliance Office to complete and maintain eligibility spreadsheets and actively monitor ongoing eligibility/certification processes.
- Work with SASS Executive Director to monitor sport specific projections of Pattern of Attendance, Co-Op cycles, APR concerns, and degree completion plans.

- Support Executive Director with annual and unique administrative tasks, act as a liaison for SASS on various institutional committees, groups, or events.
- Nominate and submit to national, conference and university awards.
- Preform additional tasks as assigned.

Compensation Grade/Pay Type: 107S
Expected Hiring Range: $52,820.00 - $74,607.50
With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
