Salary Range: Up to $63,000 - $65,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director Campus Advocacy provides leadership and supervision in the provision of advocacy services on campus. This role oversees services designed to minimize the impact of barriers or situational distress on academic and personal pursuits through effective case management and the coordination of care between academic, campus and community resources. This position provides wellbeing related services and assistance navigating academic concerns, both direct and indirect.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Supervises Campus Advocates, student staff, interns, practicum students, and volunteers in the provision of supportive services, case management, and resource navigation.
  2. Designs and delivers training programs for staff, interns, and practicum students, and contributes to onboarding through staff training and orientation.
  3. Leads the development and oversight of a case management system, including procedures, documentation protocols, and platform use (e.g., Salesforce, Maxient, Point and Click), ensuring ethical standards and continuity of care.
  4. Maintains timely documentation and referral tracking; analyzes data and provides regular reports to leadership on service outcomes and trends.
  5. Provides individual case management, advocacy, and guidance to students navigating resources, care, and concerns, including confidential and objective support as Student Ombudsperson.
  6. Identifies crises/emergencies and intervenes or refers to emergency resources to promote safety.
  7. Provides guidance on university processes including reporting, counseling, academic accommodations, legal matters, and law enforcement.
  8. Assists campus professionals in supporting their students' connection to community resources, financial assistance, insurance, medication, and private care.
  9. Reviews and processes Student Emergency Fund applications and communicates with students.
  10. Attends university adjudication proceedings as an advisor, respondent advocate, or hearing officer.
  11. Collaborates with campus professionals, Academic Affairs, and San Antonio community partners to identify and coordinate resources and referrals.
  12. Leads and sustains partnerships with service providers, community agencies, and campus offices to address student needs and academic barriers.
  13. Evaluates staff and departmental interventions using outcome measures; adjusts practices based on findings.
  14. Analyzes service trends and recurring concerns; prepares reports with recommendations for leadership and stakeholders.
  15. Develops and delivers outreach programming that encourages help-seeking and connection to resources.
  16. Works with communications and marketing teams on external messaging and media coverage.
  17. Supports programs and events sponsored by Wellbeing Services and Student Affairs.
  18. Contributes to departmental and divisional student-centered initiatives.
  19. Serves on the Postvention Core Team, providing case management support following campus deaths.
  20. Represents Wellbeing Services and Student Affairs on workgroups, taskforces, committees, and divisional teams.
  21. Serves on or represents Wellbeing and Student Affairs on various workgroups, taskforces, and committees.
  22. Serves on divisional teams for programming, communications, expressive activities, or others.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio (Legacy UTSA) and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Licensed provider in respective field such as LCSW, LPC.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience serving as an advocate or advisor in university adjudication proceedings
  • Five years of professional experience in a full-time, paid position working with college student groups.
  • Experience developing and maintaining referral resources and support services in a university or educational community.
  • Thorough knowledge of university administrative structure, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy.

Working Conditions

Primary on-campus work. Combination of in office and store front environment. Requires flexible working hours including some evening and occasional weekends. Occasional activities/events take place outdoors. High level of group and interpersonal interactions with student, faculty, staff, and community partners. Some travel is required. Fast environment with multiple interactions. Some work at both the Main and Downtown campuses may be required. Must have regular access to an environment in which confidentiality can be maintained during client contacts.

Physical Demands

Combination of sedentary and active work. Lift and move up to 50 lbs. Ability to push, pull, walk and utilize fine and gross skills and manipulation.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
