Reporting directly to the Director of Outreach & Student Recruitment, the Assistant Director of Campus Tours & Events is responsible for daily operations, directing and providing guidance in the planning, and coordination for the Campus Tours & Visitor Services unit within the Office of Outreach & Student Recruitment, through the development, implementation, and assessment of high-impact campus visitation and outreach programming. This position directly supports the Director of Outreach and Student Recruitment by managing key operational functions, supervising staff and student employees, guiding culturally responsive and specialized recruitment initiatives, and exercising independent judgment in programmatic, staffing, and resource-related decisions. The Assistant Director is responsible for advancing institutional recruitment and yield.

Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Director of Outreach & Student Recruitment, the Assistant Director of Campus Tours & Events is responsible for daily operations, directing and providing guidance in the planning, and coordination for the Campus Tours & Visitor Services unit within the Office of Outreach & Student Recruitment, through the development, implementation, and assessment of high-impact campus visitation and outreach programming. This position directly supports the Director of Outreach and Student Recruitment by managing key operational functions, supervising staff and student employees, guiding culturally responsive and specialized recruitment initiatives, and exercising independent judgment in programmatic, staffing, and resource-related decisions. The Assistant Director is responsible for advancing institutional recruitment and yield.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Director to set goals, priorities, workflows, and oversee daily Visitor Center and Campus Tour operations.
  • Manage planning and execution of all tour types, using data and feedback to improve operations and strategy.
  • Lead the Coyote Ambassador program, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Develop training and staffing models to ensure high-quality tours and support events.
  • Supervise staff and student employees, providing coaching, evaluation, and leadership development.
  • Resolve operational and visitor issues, escalating when needed.
  • Oversee personnel actions in alignment with CSU policies.
  • Drive teamwork, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate on operations and programming based on budget and enrollment needs.
  • Lead design, implementation, and evaluation of campus visitation and outreach programs supporting recruitment and access for diverse students.
  • Oversee culturally responsive tours aligned with DEI goals.
  • Lead bilingual tours and ensure culturally appropriate, high-quality Spanish-language experiences.
  • Develop inclusive tours for underrepresented populations in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Oversee college-specific tours and coordinate with academic departments.
  • Manage visitor services and tours; assess and enhance programs to support regional recruitment goals for the Palm Desert and San Bernardino Campus.
  • Represent CSUSB and the Office of Outreach and Student Recruitment at regional, state, and national conferences.
  • Stay current on best practices in recruitment, visitor services, and higher education outreach.
  • Promote professional growth opportunities for staff and student employees within the unit.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and/or the equivalent training and at least 2 years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs plus four years related experience in a leadership role supervising a team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management.
  • Expertise in survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
  • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and/or the equivalent training and 3 years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs plus four years related experience in a leadership role supervising a team.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Ability to converse in Spanish is preferred, but not required.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Anticipated hiring range: $4,135 - $6,320 per month

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Work status: Full-time/Exempt/At-will

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
