Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Faculty Professional Development Programs manages the implementation, administration, and evaluation of complex faculty leadership development initiatives within the Office of Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Faculty Professional Development, this role oversees high-impact cohort-based programs for academic medicine faculty, including the Stanford Physician Leadership Certificate Program (SPLC) and the Early Career Advancement: Leading and Managing Successfully program. The Assistant Director manages the full lifecycle of in-person, hybrid, and online faculty development programs--from recruitment and enrollment to curriculum deployment, participant engagement, program evaluation, and alumni engagement. The role requires expertise in learning management systems, online course development, faculty engagement, program analytics, and executive program support. This position serves as a key liaison between OAA leadership, faculty participants, program instructors, coaches, consultants, and external partners and plays a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery and continuous improvement of faculty professional development programs.

Core Responsibilities

Program Management and Implementation: Lead the implementation and administration of faculty leadership development programs.

  • Manage the full lifecycle of major faculty professional development programs, including the Stanford Physician Leadership Certificate Program and the Early Career Advancement program.
  • Coordinate recruitment, enrollment, program delivery, and participant completion processes.
  • Develop and maintain program timelines, operational workflows, and program calendars.
  • Provide executive-level operational support to faculty program leadership.
  • Coordinate program sessions with faculty speakers, executive coaches, consultants, and instructional designers.
  • Design and deploy online learning modules using Canvas and other digital learning platforms.
  • Manage learner engagement in online and hybrid learning environments, including facilitating sessions, managing assignments, and supporting faculty learners.
  • Document program processes and operational procedures to ensure consistency, quality, and high-touch faculty service.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement solutions that improve program delivery and participant experience.

Program Evaluation, Data Analysis, and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret program data to assess effectiveness and guide strategic improvements.

  • Track program participation, enrollment trends, evaluation results, and faculty engagement metrics.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of participation and evaluation data.
  • Maintain longitudinal databases tracking faculty demographics, program participation, and outcomes.
  • Conduct program needs assessments through surveys and interviews.
  • Generate reports and analyses for leadership and institutional stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular data audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with program requirements.
  • Collaborate with the OAA analytics team to support institutional reporting and program evaluation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve program impact, efficiency, and learner experience based on data insights.

Program Administration and Participant Management: Administer program policies, procedures, and participant processes.

  • Evaluate eligibility of faculty applicants and review program applications.
  • Provide admission recommendations to program leadership.
  • Communicate program decisions and manage participant onboarding.
  • Coordinate executive coach assignments and manage coach relationships.
  • Track participant milestones and completion of program requirements.
  • Organize program sessions, graduation activities, and certification processes.
  • Ensure program operations comply with accreditation requirements and institutional standards.

Stakeholder Engagement and Program Representation: Serve as a primary liaison between the Office of Academic Affairs and faculty participants.

  • Interface with Stanford and external faculty participants regarding program participation.
  • Coordinate with program instructors, executive coaches, consultants, and vendors.
  • Represent OAA in meetings and events related to faculty development programs.
  • Build partnerships within Stanford School of Medicine and with external collaborators.
  • Develop and maintain digital infrastructure supporting program delivery, including online communities, communication platforms, and faculty resource repositories.

Communications, Outreach, and Marketing: Support program communications and outreach activities.

  • Develop program communications, presentations, and promotional materials.
  • Manage program communication channels and interest lists.
  • Maintain program websites and digital content.
  • Coordinate announcements, and outreach campaigns.
  • Support alumni engagement initiatives and online program communities.
  • Maintain and distribute program learning materials and educational resources.

Financial and Administrative Coordination: Provide financial oversight and administrative operations related to program activities.

  • Track program-related revenue and expenditures.
  • Coordinate payments to vendors, coaches, and consultants.
  • Monitor program budgets and support financial reporting.
  • Assist with forecasting and budget planning for program activities.
  • Coordinate revenue transfer processes and financial reporting related to revenue-generating programs.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience managing complex educational or professional development programs.
  • Expertise in online learning environments and learning management systems (Canvas or similar).
  • Experience developing and delivering online or hybrid courses for professional learners.
  • Strong project management and operational coordination skills.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing program evaluation and participation data.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly when working with faculty or senior professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience working in academic medicine.
  • Experience managing faculty development or leadership development programs.
  • Experience producing online learning modules using tools such as Camtasia or similar software.
  • Experience supporting executive education or national-level professional programs.
  • Familiarity with program evaluation methodologies and impact assessment.
  • Experience working with external consultants, executive coaches, and faculty instructors.
  • Knowledge of faculty career pathways and leadership development in academic settings.
  • Experience developing program communications, marketing materials, and digital learning resources.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and two or more years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. Research experience. Program administration experience may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and provide basic direction to staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.

The expected pay range for this position is $100,023 to $124,516 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire.
